In 2006, Beyoncé and Shakira joined forces for their hit song ‘Beautiful Liar’. Fast forward to 2023, and Beyoncé brought the song out of retirement for the first time in several years during her concert at the grand opening of Atlantis The Royal resort in Dubai. Despite being an invite-only event, the concert was highly anticipated by Beyoncé fans all over the world. Although there was a no-phone policy, fans were still able to capture snippets of the show and witness the various songs Beyoncé performed, including her iconic collab with Shakira.
Back in the mid-2000s, Beyoncé and Shakira were two of the most renowned pop singers globally, dominating the music industry with their hit singles like “Baby Boy” and “Hips Don’t Lie.” In 2006, Beyoncé’s second album, B’Day, was released on her birthday, and it contained chart-topping tracks like “Déjà Vu,” “Ring the Alarm,” “Irreplaceable,” “Beautiful Liar,” “Get Me Bodied,” and “Green Light.” One of the songs on the album, “Beautiful Liar,” was produced by Stargate, a famous pop production duo known for creating hit songs for several artists such as Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Lionel Richie, Britney Spears, and Rihanna. “Beautiful Liar” was released as a single from B’Day early in 2007 and rose to number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In a 2007 interview with MTV News, Beyoncé explained that her collaboration with Shakira was based on mutual respect and admiration for each other’s artistry. She said that they had always desired to work together, and after a few years, they finally made it happen. They made the song because they both loved and respected each other’s work.
