There is much to be learned from California’s power couple, Stephen and Ayesha Curry. As beloved figures in the Bay Area, both on the basketball court and in Hollywood, they have the ability to challenge and reshape societal norms. Recently, they have done just that by showcasing the beauty of the often overlooked color – beige.
Beige has long been seen as a safe and unremarkable hue, rarely garnering the attention and excitement that its brighter counterparts receive. However, the way we perceive and incorporate beige in our decor is evolving.
Designers and celebrities alike are starting to recognize the versatility and potential of this understated tone. In fact, it has been predicted to replace the popular gray color in the year 2023. Stephen and Ayesha Curry, always at the forefront of trends, have embraced this shift and transformed beige from its traditional, homely connotations to a glamorous and stylish choice.
Ayesha, who is famous for her shows About Last Night and Ayesha’s Home Kitchen, recently gave us a glimpse of her beautifully designed beige-themed space. The room features a stunning painted ceiling that truly accentuates the chosen color. To complement the beige, Ayesha cleverly incorporated a large gray sofa and rug, which perfectly enhances the overall aesthetic. Helen Shaw, a color expert and Benjamin Moore’s marketing director, was quick to notice the impeccable color pairing.
Helen suggests following Ayesha and Stephen’s example of combining neutral-color families, such as gray and beige. However, if we want to make the color stand out more, Helen recommends incorporating reds and oranges into the mix.
According to Helen, neutrals are great for toning down busy and bold designs, as well as enhancing minimal and contemporary looks. When pairing neutrals, she advises grouping similar color families together, like combining beige tones with reds and oranges.
These colors are crucial for any interior renovation and range from cool grays to warm beiges and plaster pinks. In recent seasons, there has been a shift towards the warmer shades as they provide a sense of comfort and upliftment.
While any beige can work well, we particularly love the soothing tone from Backdrop, as shown below.
